YouTube video: Earth Day 2009: Do environmental rights = human rights?

What images come to mind when you think of human rights? Pictures of torture, unjust detention, police brutality, political persecution? Or do you think about climate change? What about when you think of the environmental movement? Do you picture oceans, forests, whales, butterflies? Or do you think about people?

Although the environmental and human rights movements are sometimes perceived as two different things - especially in many developed countries like the United States - in much of the world they are closely intertwined. Ad: Funny YouTube videos at TurtleSays.com.

In March 2009, two WITNESS staff members Kelly Matheson and Priscila Neri traveled to the annual meeting of the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide to speak activists from around the world about this connection. We asked them: do environmental rights = human rights?

Comments:

"I have felt her talent as emotions took over and realised what great singers can do...
You deserve the best for being the best at what you do...Let your dreams be as you are incredibly talented... There are some many your videos on Utube
When is the album coming out?I will be looking forward to it as will millions of others around this tiny planet of ours.
Thank you for being trully amazing....you have made us all humble.
Bless you...."

"She does have an amazing voice, so do many others!! How she got to be 47 and not be noticed before this is probably a bit of why there is so much hype!!"

"You are absolutely amazing! I was in tears watching this and my husband who has never cried over ANYTHING actually had tears running down his face. We wish you all the best and thank you for your gracious gift. Love from Canada, I like to watch YoUtube!"

"Susan, yes -- Please be cautious. You are going to get many, many people that will want you in their corner now. I wish you all the best, and hope that your character doesn't change. Maybe you should take a few weeks and really think about what you are going to do. Options will be limitless. You will be huge. Wonderful for you. Check out my Utube video clips."

YouTube video: Miss USA California Responds To Gay Marriage Question From Perez Hilton

Perez Hilton asks Miss California what she thinks about legalizing gay marriage and she definitely does not give the politically correct answer. One of the most controversive YoUtube videos.

There are DEFINITELY a lot of boos coming from the crowd followed by mixed applause, though it's hard to hear the boos in the recording.

This recording is owned by NBC.

Comments:

"She might have won the crowd, but not the crown. If one want to win a beauty pageant, or any contest/ competition if that matters, you should give the answer which pleasing the judges or tell them what they want to hear. They are ones who give the crown to the winner, not the audiences. (and you could imagine demographic of the judges.) Free speech, yes, but If you want to make a political statement, become a politician or an activist, not a beauty queen."

"She's just being honest.
But let me get this straight.
In a supposedly Free America we have the right the denounce and criticize straight and normal marriage, but we aren't even allowed to express our own opinion about homosexuality ?
Miss California, you just earned my respect! I love Utube video clips like this one.
Haters and Homosexuals, as much as you guys are free, she is free to express herself too."

"When a white kid grows up identifying with and later emulating and having the same tastes as the black people he sees no one ever says the white kid was born black. But when a man grows up identifying with and later emulating and having the same tastes as women then everyone wants to believe he was born that way. Until there is actually evidence that homosexuality is genetic the homosexual movement should stop regurgitating the "born that way" slogan. It gets old after a while."

"Just like the people whose "opinions" of Bush and his lying, incompetent administration were in the minority when his popularity was at 90%. We were eventually proven right, Bush showed himself to be a colossal failure, and the Iraq occupation was based on lies. I am waiting to see new YoUtube videos Those were some mighty dangerous extremists we had to purge from the White House in 2008, weren't they, cupcake?"

"Look at 10 close... if wafers head was just a lil higher and howard swung a lil late, Wafer would have no head right now hhaha Howard swung wittttt sooo much power"

Amazing that she didn't get a chance before. Now let's see what a hairdresserm a visagist and a dressmaker can do. As long as she does not lose that voice!

Susan rocks, the best voice i've heard in many years, when you think of the seriously bad singers that make millions and heres this wee woman with this amazing voice hidden away.

Totally thrilling, such a unique quality in that voice. I have to admit I was moved to tears, honestly. Can't stop rewinding the show, played it over and over....... SUPERB. If there is any justice at all, this talented lady should realise her dream and succeed, if not to win this competition, then to be given a recording contract IMMEDIATELY so that we can all enjoy forevermore a rare and beautiful talent. Well done Susie, you are a STAR!!

YouTube video - NBA TV Top 10: January 13th

Our blog brings you most amazing You Tube videos everyday , this time NBA's Top 10 Plays for January 13th, 2009.

YouTubers' comments:

"Kobe Kobe Kobe! That was right after a Shane Battier 3 put Houston up.
LeBron doin what LeBron doin. You can't really stop this guy, can you?"

"Lebron is a clown lol making all those circus shots."

"great top 10, but in my opinion, the #1 didn't deserve to be #1

and, btw, even i usually don't like kobe and lebron, they're really doing great this year. kobe has proven, that he is a hell of a clutch player, and not just once, i think he had like 4 game winners already."

"I demand that people can make big claims on their comments about LeBron and whoever, provided they punctuate properly and use correct grammar. Otherwise, there's no point typing it--no one understands it anyway!"

"How is Lebron overrated?? Really?
I could list countless reasons hes NOT but do I really have to?
If someone else made that #1 play you wouldnt complain....
Problem is Lebron does it every night and it has become the norm.... Why cant we just appreciate a player that will be remembered as one of the greats....if not the greatest when its all said and done"

Would Pre-Vetting All Video Help Google Make Money On YouTube?

Over the past few months, there has been a lot of talk about how Google are trying, and ultimately failing at this point, to make YouTube the revenue-getting machine its traffic indicates it could, and should, be.

A couple of days ago, it leaked that Google were going to be reversing a long-held conviction, and putting pre-roll and post-roll adverts on to the site - a move very likely to upset regular visitors.
Only For Approved Content

It was also reported that these adverts were only to appear on videos which have been approved by media companies and other partners. A move obviously prompted by the legal wrangle with Viacom currently playing out in court.

Approved content only accounts for about 4% of the total videos on YouTube, and for that, Google is expecting to make about $200 million in revenue this year. So the question now being asked is: Should Google up the rate of approved videos?
Pre-Vetting To Increase Revenue?

Mark Cuban asks that question on Blog Maverick, and puts a clear and well-thought out argument forward. Basically saying that the extra revenue generated would pay for the automatic and manual reviewing of video content on being uplaoded on to the site.

There is currently over 10 hours of content uploaded to the site every minute, so that would be quite a job for a data center to handle, but the extra revenue generated could indeed make it a viable option.

As Cuban says, Google is already doing this exact same process for the 4% of videos that do pass the copyright-free content owned tests already, so it’s not as though it would be a completely new system to set up and manage.
Video-Vetting Backlash

Purely for the business of revenue-generating, this would obviously work, but in the pursuit of profit, how much would Google be risking in terms of YouTube losing its status as the ultimate video destination, and one which isn’t subject to pre-vetting.

Back in March, Steve Chen, one of the original founders of YouTube, argued that video vetting would ruin the ease and immediacy that the site currently offers to people who want to upload video content to the Web.
Revenue Vs User Satisfaction

The Christian YouTube clone GodTube does use pre-vetting, and it means videos take a while to make it on to the site. I’m not too sure that YouTube veterans would take too kindly to a change such as this.

It means Google are in a position where it has to make a decision to risk annoying its many millions of users, but making extra revenue, or leaving things as they are, and making less. I’m guessing the former.
