YouTube Veterans Launch Howcast.com

A handful of former Google and YouTube employees are launching a how-to video site today with $8 million in funding in a round led by Tudor Investment Corp., the company announced today.

Howcast offers a “directors program” for emerging filmmakers to contribute videos to the site. “Online video is generally split into two worlds: user-generated content and professional studio content,” Jason Liebman, CEO and co-founder of Howcast, said in a statement. “We think there’s an opportunity to bridge these worlds, and instructional video is a perfect place to start.”

The site, www.howcast.com, features vides on topics such as how to hold a baby and how to build a laser security system. Review of Top YouTube Videos website.

Howcast is one of a growing number of how-to sites. It will compete against www.ExpertVillage.com and www.Wonderhowto.com, which launched last week.
